Terrible Lie a aparut in 1989 pe albumul de debut al trupei, condusa exemplar de catre genialul TRENT REZNOR, intitulat Pretty Hate Machine.

TRENT REZNOR nu a vrut sa inregistreze acest album in stilul clasic cu instrumentisti si a preferat, asta PENTRU CA POATE, sa inregistreze singur aproape fiecare sunet ce apare pe albumul original.

Aceasta piesa nu a beneficiat de videoclip dar a avut mare priza la fanii genului.

The lyrics are inspired by David Bowie’s song “Heroes”, such as with the line “You’re the queen and I’m the king”, describing two people trying to make it against an ominous and seemingly unstoppable force. David Bowie is given a special thanks credit in the liner notes of The Fragile.
